Types and applications of defoamers of water treatment chemicals

Antifoam agent is a kind of chemical substance with foam inhibiting effect, it can eliminate foam quickly and effectively, so it plays an important role in industrial production and life, widely used in various industries.


The principle of antifoam agent is mainly to reduce the surface tension of droplets by dissolving the surface tension, so that the surface energy of droplets in the liquid is reduced and the foam ruptures. It is mainly applied to eliminate foam caused by high surface tension of liquid, slurry, emulsion, oil-water separation and other processes of foaming. Defoamers can be divided into the following two kinds according to their common types:

1.Silicone defoamer

Silicone defoamer is a kind of antifoam substance derived from silicone compounds, which is mainly used to control and eliminate foaming in polymer solutions, emulsions or suspensions. Silicone defoamers can be used in most industries, especially in chemical and industrial applications such as textile printing and dyeing, paints and coatings, and rubber tires. It has strong defoaming ability for most organic compounds and is not easy to be washed out.


2. Polyether defoamer

Polyether defoamer is a kind of dispersing defoamer composed of polyether compounds, which is mainly used for eliminating foam in coating, paint and other systems. Its advantage is that it has good performance of high temperature resistance, and it can still maintain its excellent defoaming ability under the temperature above 200℃. In addition, due to its good film-forming and anti-adhesion properties, its solubility in water is higher compared with other defoaming products.
